I've got my journal with me now, so hopefully I can give a more thorough update than usual. I also have some time to write now. I haven't been on in a few days because Mommy has been taking up the internet time with trying to upload our photos to Facebook. Ugh.
I think I've talked about Friday night a couple of times, but there's one more thing I forgot to mention. Dinner was a typical YWAM experience. We had Korean food that the Korean team made, Thai food that the Thais made, and Daddy & some of our team made spaghetti. Yum! I love spaghetti noodles! That was the same night that Gook gave her life to Jesus! And Daddy preached the sermon. It was really interesting because his message was translated from English to Thai and then from Thai to Korean. How funny is that?!
On Saturday morning, I stayed behind with Daddy, so I could get some good nap time in...I haven't had the best naps since I've been here. Mommy & the team went to a children's day at one of the universities. There were apparently lots of booths set up with different activities & games for kids. Mommy & the students performed a dance to "Big House" by Audio Adrenaline. What a catchy tune! They got these funny pink tank tops as a gift for performing. After they finished there, they came back to the base.
After lunch & some team time, we went with all the YWAMers (Thais & Koreans) to play games & sports in a park at a university. Mommy and I hung out & had fresh fruit from a fruit stand. I love bananas! And I tried some kind of yummy Thai fruit. I don't know what it is; Aom says she doesn't think we have it in America.
After sports time, we all went to a night market near the base. I was such a hit...as usual! But one Thai man gave me a 5 Baht coin & the lady that makes the fruit shakes gave me an orange. People here are so nice!
I also got to talk to my Pa & Mama on Saturday! I miss them!
Sunday morning we went to a Thai church. The message was in Thai, but a member of the church kindly translated for us. Aom was at her church with some other members of our team. We met a nice American couple at church, who have been missionaries in Thailand for six years. They said they had two boys (one just a year older than me), but they didn't come with them. I was sad about that because I think we would have had fun together. I kept trying to eat rocks and twigs, but then we finally had lunch at the church. I heard the team saying that one of the dishes was really spicy! But the church people were so nice...they set up a table just especially for us & the other Americans.
After church, we traveled to Aom's church to meet up with the rest of our team. Then we went to the most amazing place...a monkey village! You should have seen all the monkeys! They were everywhere, and I giggled at them for being so funny! Some of the monkeys were mean, but Daddy protected me from them with a big stick. And Aom chased the mean ones away with a broom. The rest of them were nice. Members of our team fed them & everything!
After the monkey village, we went to a place called Baan Chan. It's an orphanage, and Mommy has stayed there twice before. All the girls loved me & carried me around all over the place. I was especially excited to meet Ya, who is a little girl that Mommy loves. She is 12 years old now, so she had a lot of fun carrying me around. We took lots of pictures, and then we sadly had to leave.
Next we went to Aom's mother's house in Khon Kaen. We only stayed there for a few minutes, but it was fun to meet her. Then we went to a place called T-Bone Steakhouse. It's American food! It was an all you can eat buffet that had lots of American food & a little Asian food. I got to have mashed potatoes, french fries, and even some ice cream! Yummy! I was so tired & full, I slept almost all the way back to Mahasarakham.
Yesterday was a day off for the team. We slept in a little, but then I wanted Mommy & Daddy to wake up...so I woke them up! They had peanut butter, banana, & sweetened condensed milk sandwiches. I had my usual strawberry yogurt and milk. I love yogurt. We hung out at the base & I took a nap while Mommy & Daddy cleaned our room & did laundry.
When I woke up from my nap, my face felt all itchy. I kept rubbing & rubbing my eyes & nose. Right before we left for lunch, Mommy noticed a few red splotches near my mouth. We got to the mall for lunch, and Mommy & Aom went upstairs to look at the food. Daddy noticed my face was getting red all over, so he called Aom. She & Mommy ran back downstairs. Next we walked to a pharmacy, but they suggested we walk on to the hospital, which was close. Tarn drove up & got us & we drove the rest of the way to the hospital. The nurse that greeted us & helped us did a DTS in 2005. How funny! I went in to see a pediatrician, and she asked Aom & Mommy lots of questions. They say I had some sort of allergic reaction, but they don't know exactly what happened. We discussed all the foods I'd eaten, but nothing was new. They finally decided it might have been all the dust that got stirred up in our room when Mommy & Daddy cleaned. They gave me four different medicines (eye drops, cream, and two oral kinds). By the time Tarn & Aom dropped us back at the mall for lunch, I was already looking better. I ate my lunch & took some medicine, and I felt much better.
When we got back to the base, we all prayer walked at the temple across the street. Then we decided to go around the outside wall seven times. We sang lots of worship songs, and lots of people looked at us very strangely as we kept going past them. At the end, we stood at the threshhold of the temple and shouted Jesus in Thai three times. I think maybe that temple will fall down. I believe God can do it!
Finally, last night, we went bowling & to do karaoke at a local place. It was so much fun! The karaoke time was in our own private room. We sang lots of silly American songs, and sometimes we even scored a 100. Mommy & Tyler sang "Bohemian Rhapsody" and scored a 100!
We got back late last night, so I quickly went to bed. This morning I've stayed behind with Mommy so I can nap, and I finally got this chance to catch up on my blog. I hope you've enjoyed this update. Sorry it is so long, but I've just had so many adventures to fill you in on. Thailand is amazing!
Thomas we love your blogs! We love hearing about your adventures! And we thank God that your allergic reaction was not too bad and you're feeling better now. What fun you are having.
ReplyDeleteMama is glad that your Mommy had someone who knows Bohemian Rhapsody like she does! And I'm sure your Mommy remembers a bunch of us singing it at the Health Camp in Waco - a wonderful place that you'll get to experience someday!
Love you! Give your Mommy & Daddy a big hug from us!
